The Backwater Journey

The Backwater Journey

Kerala Backwates
Kerala, a puny little state in the southernmost part of India has a long coastline on its western side. The sea extends to the land in pockets of backwaters. Many places along the banks of these backwaters serve as tourist attractions. Besides serving as waterways in transporting people and goods over many centuries, they have become an unavoidable tourism experience for visitors to the state owing to the sheer beauty of the scenic images created by them along with the millions of coconut trees overlooking them. The region has a unique culture and cuisine that makes a holistic tourism experience. I got the opportunity to take hundreds of snaps during a recent visit. Couldn’t help painting a few of them immediately. A quiet sunset in a paddy field, a distant boat carrying commuters, and a church on the sides of a paddy field are a few of them.
Boat in waiting

Very often you come across a lonely boatman steering a traditional boat or throwing a fishing net, women washing clothes or cleaning fish, or people waiting for a ferry are all good picks for painting.

A boat-in-waiting is my favorite in this series. See more in my original work portfolio
