Monsoon Reflection
Some love rains. Some others hate the atmospheric gloominess and the disturbances they bring to normal life. But who does not like a light shower that lightens the agony of a scorching Sun, especially, the one that welcomes the rainy season after a long and dry summer spell.
Nature gets a shower too, leaving every open surface sparkling clean, ready to reflect the myriad colors around. Fresh green sprouts and the rejuvenated flora and fauna delight every mind. Those reflections on the mirror-like surface of the wet roads and other objects are worth capturing just as the Sunshine in the morning or the twilight on a sunny day.
Regardless of the streak of light from a bright Sun or the lack of it in a gloomy sky, the reflections and shadows created make landscape painting a highly satisfying experience. This highway painting has deep reflections from the headlamps of the vehicles.
Rains mean multiple things to people, not forgetting the occasional spell of nature’s fury on the unlucky people.
For artists, rain is a source of unlimited creative potential. Particularly Watercolor artists explore the shadows and reflections of light. I have tried many rain reflections in the past, another topic of interest for me. Here’s some attempt to capture the reflections of light on a wet road during heavy rain and traffic.
I’m posting some more in this genre, painted while I was stuck at home in the middle of a furious Monsoon this season.
A stride through the road in the rubber plantations of Kerala.
All three paintings were displayed at the exhibition conducted at the Gaya Art Gallery, Kochi, Kerala by the famous artists’ group Prussian Blue in June 2024.
The elephant is on the move in the rain through the wet road. Another image worth capturing.
